DOUG LOWE'S FINE ART GALLERY

I am a painter in acrylics.  Visually my paintings do not break new ground.  It is how and why I see people as I do and how I translate them into colour and form that makes my paintings unique.

Some of my my paintings have a monumental classical look to them, perhaps with a modern treatment (take a look at Palestinian Stone Thrower), others seem to draw on the inspiration of Picasso (take a look at Impression of Henrietta) or Mondrian (take a look at Richard Branson). The styles of them certainly do, but the inspiration for the painting be it abstract or realistic invariably comes from my own insight into the person or event of our times.

My art has evolved from abstract through to realism.  I am self taught and something of a loner, which is not helpful when one is trying to make a name for oneself.   I have followed this path because I have always thought that educational institutions are surreptitiously good at making look alikes.  I did not want to be a look alike so I eschewed a formal education in art.  It appears that I have talent - other people think so.  If I did not, I certainly would not paint.

My art has direction notwithstanding its extreme variety.  People are my direction.  I need to paint people from babies to octogenarians in all their colours and shapes.  If a baby demands the use of soft pastel colours and unformed shapes as in CHLOE, that is what I paint.  If on the other hand a violent scene as depicted in ANGELS DIE WHERE FOOLS FEAR NOT TO KILL, demands the use of the strongest, boldest, colours in hard aggressive shapes, that is what I paint.

I believe it is our responsibility as visual, hard copy artists to preserve the reality of our times for posterity.  It follows therefore that I have little regard for the transient sensationalism of animal picklers, people who shroud buildings in the name of art and people who deface good clean canvasses with elephant dung

So have a look.  My site is easy to navigate and quick to load.
